1. Report has it that a middle-aged man has died in a swimming pool in Akure, the Ondo State capital. The report claimed that the deceased whose identity is yet to be known was a lodger at Helena hotel, Ijapo, the state capital. Some workers at the hotel stated that efforts to rescue the deceased who took time out to use the hotel’s swimming pool proved abortive. They alleged that people die in the said hotel every year.
2. The Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, has said that the Nigeria Air project followed due process and is currently at the procurement stage awaiting approval of the Federal Executive Council (FEC). Sirika also denied claims that the government spent $600,000 on the design of the logo after the carrier was unveiled at the Farnborough Airshow in London in July.
3. The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, has suspended his Special Assistant on Transport, Mr. Oba Peter for allegedly extorting money from clergymen in the state. Oba, was said to have constituted an illegal taskforce that moves around the state extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public. Umahi has now directed that he refunds all monies collected from his victims. He was also ordered him to return all vehicle number plates confiscated by his illegal taskforce.
4. The British Government has spoken on the clashes between Nigerian security agencies and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, also known as Shittes. Speaking through its outgoing High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Arkwright, the government insisted that both the Shi’ite and security agencies must respect the rule of law in the country.
5. Former presidential candidate, Pat Utomi, has described Nigeria as the most miserable place to live on planet earth right now. Utomi, a professor of political economy who stated this on Thursday also said Nigeria ranks low on almost every global development index.
6. The United States Embassy has advised the President Muhammadu Buhari government to apply caution in the handling of protesting members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, also known as Shittes. The US Government cautioned both the Federal Government including the security forces and members of the IMN to exercise restraints in order not to escalate the crisis.
7. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released names of political parties and their nominated candidates for by-elections in Kastina, Bauchi, Kwara and Cross River, scheduled for Nov. 17. The list was released in a statement signed by INEC National Commissioner, and Chairman, Information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye on Thursday in Abuja. The by-elections are for Kankia/Kusada/lngawa Federal Constituency of Katsina State, Toro Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, Ekiti/lrepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency of Kwara, and lkom ll State Constituency of Cross River State.
8. No fewer than 2000 members of the People Democratic Party, PDP, have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State. The defectors made this known in Okada Ward, Ovia North East Local Government Area of the state. Led by one Jamiu Deinde, the defectors said they left the PDP due to their inability to access their incumbent lawmaker, Hon Omosede Igbinedion.
9. Three persons have been confirmed dead after a boat carrying 20 passengers capsized at Liverpool, Coconut under Bridge in Lagos State. The General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), said that the incident occurred on Wednesday at 8:20 p.m. Tiamiyu said that rescue team were still searching for five other missing passengers.
10. Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has frowned at the Federal government for confining the visit of Prince Charles of Wales to only Abuja and Lagos. The Duke and Duchess of Cornwell are on a three-day working visit to Nigeria. But Governor Wike while hosting international preacher, Evangelist Daniel Kolenda at Government House in Port Harcourt criticised the Federal Government for shielding Prince Charles of Wales from the Niger Delta that produces the nation’s wealth just to cover its shame.
