1. The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and Senate President, Bukola Saraki on Thursday arrived in Washington, DC, the United States of America’s capital.
Atiku will speak to the Chamber of Commerce on Friday, from 2:30pm to 4pm.
2. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has released the final list of presidential candidates ahead of the forthcoming February elections.
The list, which was signed by INEC’s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony was released on its official Twitter handle, with names of the political parties, their presidential candidates and running mates.
3. Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have impeached the Deputy Speaker of the House, Mr Segun Adewumi.
Mr. Adewumi was removed by the lawmakers on Thursday in Ado Ekiti over allegation of gross misconduct, and replaced by Olamiposi Omodara as the new deputy speaker
4. Justice Hadiza Rabiu Shagari of the Federal High Court sitting in Katsina State has dismissed a case filed by a faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, challenging the party’s congresses held in the state.
The factional group, known as APC AKIDA, comprising one Alhaji Sani Bello and 170 others filed the suit against the party’s state executives and others on the ground that they were shut out of participating in the congress.
5. Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo yesterday presided over the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting, which deliberated on the minimum wage request, among other issues, started around 11.26am on Thursday when Osinbajo arrived at the Council chamber.
6. The travails of Senator Dino Melaye in the hands of the Nigeria Police might linger as Senators kept mum two days after resumption from a 44-day New Year break.
Usually, lawmakers have privileges of raising a “point of order” in consonance with Senate rules on issues considered personal, particularly as it affects their colleagues, the reverse was the case yesterday.
7. Islamic human rights organization, the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has insisted that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen, must face trial.
According to the group, the evidence was too overwhelming and the onus was on the CJN to prove his innocence.
8. A nine-man Disciplinary Committee of the Imo State All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday recommended that Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, be expelled from the party for engaging in anti-party activities.
The letter from the disciplinary committee, signed by the chairman Matthew Omeghara and secretary Kevin Ugwu, was made available to newsmen in Owerri.
9. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has said politicians’ sins are forgiven when they join the ruling party.
Oshiomhole made this statement on Thursday, while welcoming new members to the party, at the APC presidential campaign in Benin.
10. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has said the commission is not anticipating the postponement of the general elections.
He also claimed that the Osun election had a low turn out because it was an off-season election.
