Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Friday morning

1. Gunmen have killed a 42 year-old man, Mr. Mahan Ishaya, and injured three others in Daffo town of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau.

DSP Terna Tyopev, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, who confirmed this to newsmen in Jos, said they received information that about 8:30 p.m, some unknown gunmen attacked Daffo town in Bokkos LGA.

2. A bursar of the Akure Anglican Diocese in Ondo State, has been shot dead.

The bursar, who has been identified as Gabriel Kola Abiodun, was killed on Thursday by gunmen suspected to be ‘armed robbers’ who were said to have followed him after leaving a bank premises.

3. The Federal High Court in Abuja, has set aside the sale of Etisalat (9mobile) to Teleology Nigeria Limited.

Justice Binta Nyako in a ruling on Thursday, also voided all steps taken on the exchange of ownership of Etisalat, in spite of pending orders for the maintenance of status quo.

4. The Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Maikanti Baru, has said the Federal Government has no plan to increase the pump price of petrol.

Speaking with journalists at the pavilion of the NNPC during the Kaduna Trade Fair on Thursday, Baru remarked that though it was not responsible for pricing, he was aware that President Muhammadu Buhari had said there will be no increment.

5. Nollywood actor, John Okafor, aka Mr Ibu is reportedly down with stroke.

According to a close family source, Ibu was reportedly hit by a mysterious stroke shortly after he returned from his recent trip to Owerri.

6. An Abuja High Court has threatened to issue a bench warrant on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner for Imo State, Mr. Francis Ezeonu over contempt of court.

Justice O. A. Musa of the Bwari division of the Court, who was visibly angry that the order of the court was not obeyed, directed the Imo State commissioner of Police to effect the order by producing the Resident Electoral Commissioner to appear before it on or before April 30.

7. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says it has not registered FanYogo Gin and Ginger drink in Nigeria.

Its Director-General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, said that the drink, which contained 12.5 per cent alcohol, and being circulated in the social media, was not a product of Fan Milk Plc.

8. The House of Representatives, on Thursday, asked the Gov. of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele, to appear before it over alleged discrepancies in the remittance of N33 billion pension deductions by the National Pension Commission (PenCom).

The House also invited the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris, to appear alongside Emefiele before its Ad hoc Committee to Investigate the Activities of PenCom and its administrators on Tuesday, April 9, NAN reports.

9. Ms Patience Oniha, Director-General, Debt Management Office (DMO), says the total public debt of Nigeria as at Dec. 31, 2018 is N24.38 trillion.

Oniha, who made the disclosure during a news conference on Thursday in Abuja, explained that the figure was N2.66 trillion higher than the N21.7 trillion recorded as at Dec. 31, 2017, and represents a year-on-year growth of 12.25 per cent.

10. The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed Inspector Ogunyemi Olalekan, the policeman who shot Kolade Johnson dead on Sunday.

This was disclosed in a statement made available to newsmen by Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police and Public Relations Officer of the Police in Lagos, after a four-day orderly trial.
