1. President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived London in the United Kingdom, for a private visit.
His aide, Bashir Ahmad, who made this known on Twitter Friday morning, said the President and his entourage arrived the Queen’s land safely.
2. The Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, says the police are in the process of acquiring and deploying less lethal weaponry during operations.
Adamu, who spoke in Osogbo at the inauguration of a Zonal Security Stakeholders’ Forum, a community policing concept for the Police Zone XI comprising Ondo, Osun and Oyo State, said he had commenced the process of addressing factors that engender conflict and distrust between the citizens and the police, particularly issues bordering on misuse of firearms and sundry abuses of police powers.
3. The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says the Federal Executive Council (FEC) will hold its valedictory session on May 22.
The minister made this disclosure while fielding questions from State House correspondents at the end of the Council meeting which was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
4. The Igbo in Nigeria Movement (IMN), a socio-political organization of the Igbos, has faulted a recent statement credited to John Nwodo, President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, that President Muhammadu Buhari was enthroning ethnicism into the nation’s polity.
The group in statement by its president, Maxi Ifeanyi Igwe, said Nwodo’s outburst was unbecoming of an elder statesman, who should serve as a uniting figure.
5. Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday cleared the air on his absence during President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Lagos State.
But, Tunde Rahman, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media on Thursday said the APC leader did not deliberately stay away from Lagos during Buhari’s visit but was out of the country.
6. The All Progressives Congress (APC), South East zone, has summoned an emergency meeting to deliberate on the ongoing crisis over sharing of leadership positions in the incoming 9th National Assembly.
The meeting, scheduled to hold in Enugu on Saturday, is at the instance of the National Vice Chairman of APC, South East zone, Emma Eneukwu.
7. Two Chinese, who were supervising government projects at Uburu community, in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
The gunmen abducted the victims, whose names were yet to be identified at the time of filing this report and whisked them away to an unknown destination.
8. The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Thursday approved the total of sum of N977.7 million for the N-Creative and N-Tech trainings to empower 3,500 beneficiaries in Northern and Southern Nigeria, respectively.
The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Sen. Udo Udoma, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents after the FEC meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
9. The National Examination Committee (NEC) of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has approved sanctions for all candidates and centres that were involved in malpractice.
NEC okayed punishment for candidates already slammed with Cancellation of Entire Results (CER) and Cancellation of Subject Results (CSR).
10. The hearing of an appeal filed by Sen. Ademola Adekele, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, candidate for Osun State in the September 2018 governorship election, was on Thursday stalled in the Court of Appeal, Abuja on account of improper service.
At the resumed hearing, Mr Bankole Komolafe, Counsel for Raheem and Habeeb, drew the attention of the court that four vital pages of the Notice of Appeal served on him were not included.
