1. A street protest by members of the #BringBackOurGirls movement was cut shot on Thursday by the police during their protest walk along the Shehu Shagari Way- Abuja, where they distributed fliers to motorists and passers-by, bringing to the fore, the plight of the over 200 Chibok girls abducted 256 days ago by Boko Haram insurgents. Report says about 20 policemen took over the road when the protesters tried to match towards the presidential villa.
2. The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, has said that so far, there is no violent incident as Christians go about celebrating their Christmas. Abba spoke to newsmen on Thursday at the Jabi Lake Resort while he was on patrol of the nation’s capital. He said attempts by criminals to cause violence in some parts of the country had been frustrated by security men.
3. A former Minister of State for Education and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said that workers in Rivers state have not been paid their salaries because Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi spent N30bn to fund the presidential campaign of the All Progressives Congress.
4. The vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 presidential election, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, in a campaign message inside a BRT bus on Thursday said the country needed a man of integrity like Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to bring corruption to a halt in the country. He joined passengers in the Bus Rapid Transit from the Tafawa Balewa Square to Barracks area of Lagos.
5. Pope Francis had in his Christmas message to Christians around the world asked them to pray for peace to return to troubled spots in the world, especially in Nigeria and other African countries. He also called for peace in the entire middle-east.
6. Rivers State PDP Governorship Candidate, Mr. Nyesom Wike has disclosed that the party has decided to pick up a woman as his running mate for 2015 election. The candidate made the announcement at Omagwa, Ikwerre LGA on Christmas Day where he celebrated the Christian festival with the people of the area. He said that the female deputy governorship candidate will be unveiled by the Party Tuesday next week.
7. The Rivers State government has condemned reports from Toye Princewill’s desk that it sold the state’s assets to fund APC 2015 campaign. According to the state government, Princewill should rather concentrate on his political ambition instead of delving into the state matters that he knows little or nothing about. The government also accused him of handling questionable projects in the state.
8. President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday cautioned politicians against planting seeds of discord via their utterances. He said their actions and utterances if not guarded will be capable of consuming all of them. He said this at a Christmas service held at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Maitama, Abuja.
9. Reacting swiftly to the denial by the Rivers state government over sales of the state assets to fund APC rally, Tonye Princewill had called for a Commission of enquiry into the allegation he raised against the state government. He said the government failed to state in clear terms while denying the allegation.
10. The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, and Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, the General Superintendent, Deeper Life Church, have predicted a brighter future for Ekiti State, saying God will intervene in the various problems confronting the state. They made the prediction in the state while on an evangelical visit during the Christmas celebration.
