Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Friday morning

Good morning! Here are 10 things you need to know this morning:

1. Nigerian youth have continued to express their anger against the government of President Goodluck Jonathan as his convoy was again stoned on Thursday in Jalingo, Taraba state by some angry youths.

2. The All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation has alleged that there is an ongoing plot by the Peoples Democratic Party and President Jonathan to scuttle the 2015 general elections. This allegation was raised in a statement signed by the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC campaign organisation, Mallam Garba Shehu, in Abuja, on Thursday. He said the intention was to use the court to disqualify its candidate from the coming election.

3. The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday alleged that the Federal Government was swindling Nigerians by selling kerosene for N150 per litre instead of N50. He made this statement in Benin, the state capital while receiving defectors from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress.

4. Report says a Nigerian town, Malumfatori in the north-eastern Nigeria has been recaptured from the Boko Haram sects by Chadian soldiers. This, according to reports followed two days fighting that saw the soldiers going into the town to reclaim it.

5. The Federal Government has condemned the war threat of war by some ex-Nigeria Delta militants, Asari Dokubo and Tompolo who said there would be war if Jonathan is not returned elected. Responding to the threat, the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, at a news conference in Abuja, said that there was no basis for the ex-militants to be beating war drums since President Goodluck Jonathan had said he would accept defeat if he lost the February 14 presidential election.

6. Intelligence reports have shown that the Boko Haram insurgents have come up with a new way of attacking Nigerians at political rallies, worship centres and markets with camels, goats and donkeys laden with explosives. It was also disclosed that some men disguised as cobbler would be used by the insurgents to attack ATMs. Coordinator of the National Information Centre on the war against terrorism, Mr. Mike Omeri, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

7. In an effort to ensure unprecedented victory for the PDP in Enugu state, Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, promised to give out N5 million to any local government that will deliver the highest number of votes to the Peoples Democratic Party in the state. The Senator made the pledge in Ezeagu during the party’s state-wide campaign rally on Thursday.

8. Former Niger Delta militant, Government Ekpemupolo, otherwise known as Tompolo while reacting to the recent call by Gen. TY Danjuma for his arrest over his war threat said Nigeria’s indivisible status will cease if Jonathan is voted out of power come February. He questioned the series of attacks against President Jonathan in the North during his campaign rally.

9. Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (ret), in Benin City, yesterday, advised Nigerians to constitutionally kill the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, through their votes before it kills Nigerians.

10. Report says four suspected APC thugs, were on Thursday night nabbed by the police when they were caught destroying billboards and other advertising outdoor signs belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in Enugu state.
