1. President Goodluck Jonathan has said that the PDP still remains the dominant political party despite its failure to win the last presidential election. Jonathan who spoke shortly after receiving the report of the Senator Ahmadu Ali-led PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, advised party members to unite despite all odds as the party will surely bounce back in 2019. The President in his argument said the victory of the APC over the PDP in the presidential election was with only over 2 million votes.
2. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been accused of attempting to sabotage the May 29 handover. This is contained in a statement issued by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and signed by its Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed., APC alleged that the outgoing government was not fully cooperating with the Gen,. Buhari’s incoming government, especially as it concerns the handover ceremony.
3. The military had in a statement issued on Wednesday night through its Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman disclosed that more women and children from the Sambisa Forest have been rescued by the Nigerian Forces. The statement also confirmed the killing of some commanders of the militant Islamist sect during the raid of the forest.
4. The 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers of the Ekiti State House of Assembly on Thursday said they can only attend the peace meeting organized by Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) to reconcile them with Governor Ayodele Fayose if the meeting is moved to the lawyer’s office, alleging that the governor planned to arrest some of them if they had attended the Thursday meeting.
5. The Federal Government on Thursday summoned the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Harry Purwanto, questioning him on why the execution of four Nigerians for drugs trafficking in the Asian country was carried out despite appeals. The Undersecretary, Economic and Consular Affairs Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador, Bokunolu Onemola, who met with Purwanto in Abuja, conveyed Nigeria’s position to the envoy, saying the four Nigerians couldn’t have been executed considering the relationship between the two countries.
6. In his May Day message to Nigerians, President-Elect, Gen. Buhari hailed Nigerians workers for their struggle in the face of economic hardship, saying he was aware of the hardships of workers which he said were caused by poor governance and corruption in the country. He then promised to turn things around for the workers.
7.Members of the #BringBackOurGirls Group have demanded an immediate apology from President Goodluck Jonathan over his inability to rescue the Chibok girls after a year i captivity.They also said the group and Nigerians will not forgive the president if he fails to tender an apology on his several roles that allegedly kept the girls in continuous bondage.
8. survivor of the Ode-Irele methanol poisoning, Mr. Olorunwa Jero, yesterday narrated his experience after being hit by the strange disease. Jero, a father of six, and a vulcaniser said he became blind and seriously ill after he took a local gin, popularly known as ogogoro.
9. The University of Lagos convocation held on Thursday with both President Goodluck Jonathan and his education minister, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, failing to attend. No representative was also sent on their behalf, says report.
10. Following Nigeria’s outcry over xenophobic attacks on its citizens in South African, the Southern African President, Jacob Zuma has spoken with President Goodluck Jonathan detailing the condition of Nigerians residing in South Africa. Both Zuma and Jonathan agreed that the two countries must maintain their lasting mutual relationship.
