1. In an effort to clear Boko Haram terrorists from the north east, troops of the newly inducted 3 Battalion, 22 Brigade, in conjunction with Army Headquarters Strike Group (AHQ SG) and the Armed Forces Special Forces (AFSF) dealt heavy blow on Boko Haram as they have cleared the remnants of the Boko Haram terrorists hibernating in Kala Balge general area. This is contained in a statement issued by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, Acting Director, Army Public Relations.
2. A committee set up to probe contracts awarded by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) from 2011 to 2015 has exposed more than 300 companies and prominent citizens including serving and retired officers of the armed forces who were involved in fraudulent activities in the immediate past administration. Report says over N7 Billion has been recovered so far from the indicted companies and individuals. A statement by Presidential Adviser, Garba Shehu, made public names of indicted companies and individuals.
3. Suspected assassins Thursday shot and killed a yet to be identified man at a filling station at Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt in Rivers State. The report says some youths armed with sophisticated weapons trailed the man to Oando filling station and opened fire on him inside his salon car.
4. President Muhammadu Buhari has apologised for dissolving governing councils of universities, directing the board should continue. Buhari offered the apology during the National Executive Council meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Abuja on Thursday, saying nothing is wrong to say sorry when mistakes are made.
5. The Code of Conduct Tribunal on Thursday said it has jurisdiction to entertain the case of false assets declaration brought against the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, dismissing the motion by the Senate President seeking to quash the 13 counts of false and anticipatory asset declaration preferred against him.
6. In a fresh video by the controversial Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shakau, the most wanted terrorist has confirmed that his end has come, but that even at that, he was determined to show his face to his followers to confirm that he is still alive. He did not give further details but said only God knows the rest.
7. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, arrested Dada Olatunji, a former Assistant Comptroller General of the Nigerian Fire Service for offences bordering on employment scam. Report says the arrest followed a petition by two applicants – Robert Matthew and Theresa Abah who alleged that sometime in December 2014, one Christopher Adaje, an officer at the Nyanya Office of the agency informed them of a recruitment exercise into the Service before April, 2015 if they could part with N350, 000.00 (three hundred and fifty thousand naira) each, which they paid but never got the job.
8. Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi, is now the new captain of the Super Eagles. Former captain Ahmed Musa, made the announcement on Thursday in Kaduna . The development is coming ahead of today’s Eagle’s encounter with Egypt for AFCON qualifier.
9. Report has emerged of a fresh abduction of 16 women by Boko Haram insurgents in Adamawa State. It was gathered that the victims made up 14 women and two girls were taken from Sabongari Madagali, in Madagali local government of the state.
10. Report says a military fighter jet involved in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East on Wednesday night crash-landed at the Yola International Airport after it got a burst tyre. Two pilots involved in the accident have been reportedly taken to an Air force military hospital for medical treatment.
