1. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged the Federal Government to sign the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFT) agreement.
Obasanjo, who made the call at the ongoing 2019 Africa Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) on Thursday in Moscow Russia, said Nigeria had no justifiable reason for not signing the agreement as countries like Eritrea, Niger and even Benin that were our neighbors had signed.
2. Nigeria Senate President, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan has withdrawn the appointment of Mr Festus Adedayo barely 48 hours after his appointment as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
In a statement on Thursday in Abuja by the Special Assistant to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Mohammed Isa, said the appointment was rescinded in his best interest.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari has challenged state governors to pay more attention to the areas of security, health, education and agriculture so as to address the menace of poverty in the society.
NAN reports that the President gave the challenge when he inaugurated the 2019 to 2023 National Economic Council (NEC) and its maiden meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
4. Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Rashid Bawa on Thursday urged Nigerians doing business in his home country to carry on their trade without fear of molestation from any quarter.
Bawa gave the advice at the High Commission in Abuja during a meeting with a delegation from the Nigerian Diaspora Commission led by the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
5. The Nigerian Army says light tactical vehicles and other weapons being locally produced by its company, Nigerian Army Vehicle Manufacturing Company (NAVMC), will help in addressing Nigeria’s internal security challenges.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, stated this in an interview with newsmen on Thursday after he toured production lines in the company located at Rigachikun in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
6. The Authority of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan Oyo State, said that it has expelled no fewer than five of its students.
The students, who were expelled from the institution included; Ajuwon Gabriel, Yetunde Mary Agbanigo, Kehinde Samuel Aluko, Olufemi Olusegun Ogunwo and Saheed Ademola Oshodi with matriculation numbers, EO27559, EO30033, EO16154, EO23128 and EO25356, respectively.
7. A-25-year-old house wife, Bosede Oguntade, has been allegedly killed by one Mr. Dotun Ogunlade, who claimed to be a pastor in Igboora, in Ibarapa geo-political zone of Oyo State.
Report says Bosede, who hailed from Ilorin in Kwara State was lured to Igboora in Oyo State with a view to finding a solution to her economic and marital problems by the ‘pastor’ who is also known as ‘Arole Jesu’ where she met her untimely death.
8. President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday inaugurated the National Economic Council, NEC, to oversee the economic plans of his administration for the next four years.
Speaking during the inauguration, Buhari urged NEC members to ensure that security, education, health and agriculture are actively implemented and closely monitored.
9. President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari as the new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) with effect from 8 July.
He replaces Dr. Maikanti Baru as the 19th Group Managing Director of the National Oil Company.
10. Nigeria has qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup Round of 16.
The Super Falcons had to wait until the final Group F fixtures, to see if they would progress.
The USA beat Sweden 2-0 and more importantly, Chile could only defeat Thailand 2-0, despite needing to win by three unreplied goals.
