1. French Defence Minister, Jean-Yves Le Adrian has commended the Nigerian military for the bravery and courage so far exhibited in the fight against Boko Haram. He noted that its successes was a source of hope to France that terrorist’s organizations plotting against the country would be defeated. The minister was speaking in Abuja during his visit to Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Mansur Mohammed Dan Ali.
2. The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has asked the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, to probe reports of illegal diversion of fuel allegedly involving Governor Ayodele Fayose. In a petition by the APC State Secretary, Paul Omotoso, also copied to the Director General of the Department of State Security, Lawal Daura, the party said it was in possession of information linking Fayose with alleged fuel diversion involving some officials of NUPENG to sabotage the Federal Government in its service delivery to Nigerians.
3. Fidelity Bank has come out to accept that its Managing Director has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly helping former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke to launder $115 million cash. The bank in a statement said it was working with the EFCC on the matter in order to resolve it.
4. The Federal Government has declared Monday, May 2 as public holiday to commemorate the 2016 Workers Day Celebration. Minister of Interior, Retired Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Bassey Akpanyung on Thursday in Abuja.
5. The Federal Government on Thursday filed two amended charges against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct, CCT. The amended charges include false declaration of assets and receiving of double salaries even while he had left the office as Governor.
6. The Senate on Thursday expressed grave concern at the incessant attacks by herdsmen across the country with a warning that, if the ugly trend continues, it would turn out to be as deadly as Boko Haram insurgency. It advocated for state policing, urging the three-tier of government to take proactive measure to end hersmen attacks across the country.
7. The Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, on Thursday dismissed the application of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki seeking the tribunal Chairman, Danladi Umar to disqualify himself from the ongoing trial. At the resumed hearing on Thursday, Umar said the application was that of jurisdiction, insisting that he reserved the powers to preside over the matter.
8. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is to deploy medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other medical professionals to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps nationwide. The Director General of NYSC, Brig-Gen. Sule Kazaure, made this known Thursday while flagging-off the NYSC intervention programme at Damare IDPs camp in Yola.
9. The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has alleged that the government of Goodluck Jonathan only favoured governors elected under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party. The governor further alleged that the former President gave out N2bn from the Ecological Fund to each of the PDP governors and ignored the governors of the All Progressives Congress.
10. Prominent Idoma citizens and media practitioners have come out to condemn the ongoing trial of immediate past minister of Interior, Comrade Abbah Moro. In a joint press conference held in Abuja on Thursday by Network of Idoma Young Elites and the League of Idoma Editors, the groups believed that Moro’s trial was politically motivated, affirming that the so-called prosecution was no doubt a persecution.
