1. The National Economic Council, NEC, chaired by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, Thursday said that to come of the recession, the President’s Economic Management Team (EMT) was working on plan to generate immediate larger injection of fund into the economy through; asset sales; advance payment of license renewals; infrastructure concessioning; use of recovered funds etc to reduce funding gaps; Implementation of Fiscal Stimulus/Budget Priorities; Fast-track procedures through legislation and implementation of Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) of the budget; Meaningful diversification of the economy and cut down importation.
2. Report has claimed that the All Progressives Congress, APC, has submitted the name of a former President of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as its candidate for Ondo State governorship election despite the APC Appeal Panel’s recommendation of a fresh governorship primary for the election.
3. A former Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Oyeabo Ihejirika, Thursday told an FCT High Court that he is not involved with the Boko Haram Sect. He said he fought the Boko Haram sect using his commanders in the field. He was speaking during the hearing of the case he filed against Nduka Obaigbena, and Stephen Davis, an Australian.
4. A suspected leader of the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, Abraham Suru, has been arrested by the Nigerian Navy around Sapele Council Area of Delta State. Suru, AKA Gabon reportedly hails from Ondo State. He was arrested weeks after he was declared wanted by the Nigerian military over the recent attacks on oil pipelines within Warri North and South-West Council Areas of the state.
5. Former Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau Centre at the red chamber on Thursday announced his official defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The former governor crossed-carpeted immediately after the letter he wrote on the need to decamp was read on the floor of the Senate.
6. The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, upheld the ruling of the Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which declared Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the actual winner of the last gubernatorial contest in the State.
7. The Nigerian Army has denied an online report claiming that its personnel and that of DSS molested 10 journalists in Benin city as, saying the report was incorrect. The Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, in a statement on Thursday, said those arrested were not journalists and were not manhandled as reported.
8. Following threat by the Independent People of Biafra, IPOB, of a sit-at-home protest today, the Rivers state Police Command has warned men, women and youths in the state to stay away from the planned protest. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Francis Odesanya issued the warning while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
9. The Naira on Thursday dropped further against major currencies in all segments of the market. The naira fell by 2.99 points to close at N313.07 from N310. 08 recorded on Wednesday at the interbank market, while at the Bureau De Change segment of the market, it traded at N424, N549 and N468 to the dollar, Pound Sterling and the Euro respectively.
10. The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has said it will resist plans by the Federal government to put on sale the nation’s shareholdings in the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas, NLNG, and other national assets. NLC President, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, in a statement on Thursday called on Nigerians to join the fight against the antics of some businessmen and politicians who are interested in acquiring the remaining national assets which he said should be preserved in the interest of future generations.
