1. Report says thousands have taken to the streets in several US cities to protest against Republican Trump’s surprise emergence as the President-elect, and condemning his campaign messages on immigrants, Muslims and other groups. The report further claimed that thousands of protesters on Wednesday invaded the streets of midtown Manhattan, New York City, setting US flag on fire, saying Trump was not their President.
2. Justice Walter Onnoghen has being sworn-in as the new acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN. He was sworn-in by President Muhammadu Buhari, at the council chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He has now replaced Mahmud Mohammed whose tenure ended on Wednesday after attaining the 70 years retirement age.
3. Both leaders of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, have written the United States of America’s President-elect, Mr. Donald Trump, over his victory, urging him to bring positive changes in the affairs of humanity and pledging their support for his government.
4. Ms Yakolo Indimi, the estranged wife of the son of former President Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida,- Mohammed Badamasi Babangida, has sent a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari over an alleged abduction attempt of two of her children from their school in Abuja. The petitioner alleged numerous acts of arbitrary abuse of power and privileges by Mohammed Badamasi Babangida using the Nigerian police and threatening judges handling the issue of the custody of their infant children. She alleged that one of the police officer was Sunday Ubua and Musa Maji with Police identification No. 158593.
5. Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charlyboy, has advocated the killing of corrupt leaders as they are gradually killing Nigerians by milking the nation’s economy dry. He made the call during a news conference put together by the “Occupy Unlimited” group, a civil society group that advocates good governance and corruption-free society.
6. A report has emerged that an alternative political party is on the way, which will lead to massive defection from the All Progressives Congress in the South-West. The report claims that many members of the APC loyal to a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, are only waiting for his directive before dumping the APC. The report says high-profile meetings on the matter have been going on secretly.
7. The Federal Government has inaugurated a special committee to recover illegal weapons and stop the ongoing bombings and illegal refineries in the Niger Delta region. The committee, under the office of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs is to work with stakeholders in the region as well as security agencies to ensure it succeeds. The Coordinator of the programme, Mr Tikari T. Y. Danjuma, said the programme, named Niger Delta Riverine Protection Programme, was part of initiatives of the Federal Government to address several years of neglect of the region and address the incessant violence in the region. 8. The All Progressives Congress rally which held in Ondo State yesterday, ahead of the coming governorship election in the state witnessed a poor outing following the absence of key party stakeholders from the rally, including, President Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu, Osinbajo and governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola.
9. A vigilance group, Igbogene Vigilance Committee, in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, has arrested a father of two for allegedly stealing a pot of soup, 12 wraps of fufu and a half basin of garri. He reportedly stole the items from a restaurant. He was arrested while eating some of the stolen foods.
10. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday denied reports that it was employing foreign mercenaries to fight Boko Haram. A statement from the headquarters said The story was not only mischievous and unfounded but lacked merit and far from the truth. The statement said the army has the capacity and capability to clear the remnants of the terrorists from the country.
