1. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, has approved the appointment of Mr. Olanrewaju Lasisi, a National Assembly correspondent with Channels Television, as his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity.
Gbajabiamila also appointed a Daily Trust correspondent in National Assembly, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, as his Chief Press Secretary, while Bukola Ogunyemi, a World WildLife Fund social media specialist, was appointed Special Assistant on New Media, Dele Anofi, a political reporter with the Nation newspaper, as Special Assistant on Print Media; a member of Buhari campaign Media team, Kunle Somoye, as Special Assistant on Electronic and Broadcast Media and Mr Ayo Adeagbo, as Special Assistant on Visual Communication/official photographer.
2. Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) and the police had another faceoff at the federal secretariat on Thursday morning.
The police cordoned off the road in front of the secretariat while the protesters chant “Death to Buhari, death to America.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari, Thursday, in Abuja said “cultivating neighbourliness’’ on individual and national level will deepen the values of democracy and speed up development process by saving the cost of delays and repairs.
Buhari, who hosted leaders of the National Assembly at a dinner in the State House, said an effective working relationship with the legislative arm of government will easily translate into more gains for Nigerians, noting that “it pays to maintain neighbourliness’’.
4. The Court of Appeal will today deliver judgment in a suit filed against President Muhammadu Buhari, challenging his qualification for the 2019 presidential election.
A three-member panel of the Court of Appeal presided over by Justice Atinuke Akomolafe-Wilson, had on Monday, July 8, reserved judgment in the suit after listening to the argument canvassed by counsel to parties in the matter.
5. President Muhammadu Buhari is set to retain at least 70 per cent of his first-tenure cabinet members in this second term of his presidency.
A reliable source at the presidency told DAILY POST that the President is retaining most of cabinet members based on trust.
6. The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has urged the Federal Government to take immediate measures to end harassment, intimidation, attacks and forceful ejection of pastoralists in Southern part of the country.
The Coalition in a statement signed by its Spokesman, Mr Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, inAbuja on Thursday, added that the government should quickly address the issue of their resettlement once and for all.
7. The Kaduna State House of Assembly on Thursday rejected the Commissioner nominee for Agriculture, Aliyu Jaafaru, sent to them for confirmation by Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
The Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Shagali, who presided over plenary, said the rejection was as a result of his criticism against the El-Rufai government on his social media handle since 2017.
8. Following the recent heavy downpour in Jos metropolis and its environs, three members of the same family are said to have lost their lives and two others injured as flood ravaged some parts of Zinariya community of Jos North Local Government Area, destroying nine houses and rendering the occupants homeless.
A relative of the deceased persons, Sani Bello, told newsmen that the incident happened Wednesday at about 5.30pm when heavy downpour, which lasted hours, gathered water in the narrow waterway and collapsed a fence which pulled down nearby structures.
9. The Inspector General of Police’s Puff Adder team in Collaboration with Kano State Police Command has arrested a kidnapper kingpin in connection with the killing of a 5-year-old Ahmad Ado, who was drugged to death after his family failed to pay N50 million ransom.
The Kano Command PPRO, DSP Haruna Abdullahi, said the police received a report that one Ahmad Ado ‘M’ 5 years old of Karkasara Quarters Kano was kidnapped by unknown persons at Ma’ahat Nursery and Primary School Karkasara Kano, and that the kidnappers contacted the family to pay the sum of N50,000,000 as ransom.
10. Members of the Islamic Movement inNigeria, IMN, also known as Shi’ites, yesterday, clashed with the police at the federal secretariat, Abuja, with one of the leaders in the South-West saying there would be no Nigeria in 2023 if security agents continue to kill them.
According to an eyewitness, trouble started when the police demanded to speak with leaders of the protesters and two men, Nura Marafa and Mujaid Mohammed, who came forward were arrested.
