1. Immediate past governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime has defected to the All Progressives Congress.
Spokesman of the APC in the South-East, Mr. Hyacinth Ngwu, announced that Chime had joined the ruling party, Thursday night.
2. The Upper Chamber of the National Assembly, Thursday sent the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Hameed Ali back for refusing to appear before it on uniform.
The senators therefore mandated the NCS boss to appear before it on Wednesday, March 22 in uniform in a voice vote when they received Ali during plenary.
3. No fewer than three persons were confirmed killed in a fire incident that broke out at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Konduga, Borno State.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of NEMA in the North-East, Abdulkadir Ibrahim disclosed that the IDP camp located at College Of Business Administration accommodates 6, 213 IDPs.
4. Aero Contractors, under the management of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON has retrenched about 900 workers, representing 60 per cent of the work force.
Letters of redundancy, which were issued to the affected employees during the week, said the workers would be paid their pension and gratuity.
5. A letter written by the Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in September 2016 and addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari about happenings in the nation has cropped up in the media.
El Rufai, in the letter warned Buhari that their party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had worsened the situation in Nigeria than how they met it, saying that the president had made things difficult for ordinary Nigerians than how it was.
6. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has stated that the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), will now be released 60 days after the exams.
The Head of National Office, WAEC in Nigeria, Olu Adenipekun, stated said the waiting days will now be 60 days as against the usual 90 days.
7. The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, has called for the immediate release of its leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife as ordered by the court.
The group claimed that it had uncovered plots by the Nigerian government to attack its members across the country.
8. Popular grassroots politician and former Estako local government chairman in Edo state, Chief Suleman Afegbua has been assassinated by gunmen, suspected to be hired assassins.
Afegbua was murdered on Thursday morning, along the Benin-Auchi expressway while travelling to Benin on a convoy.
9. Justice Lateefa Okunnu of the Lagos High Court has convicted Rowaye Jubril and his company, Brila Energy Ltd, on 13 counts of fuel subsidy fraud.
He sentenced Jibril to 10 years in prison, and also gave an order of restitution to his company, directing that N963.7 million be refunded to the federal government.
10. Ahmad Ahmad of Madagascar has floored the incumbent President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Issa Hayatou to emerge the new head of the football governing body.
The election, which held on Thursday in Addis –Ababa, Ethiopi, saw Ahmad polling 34 votes, while Hayatou garnered 20 votes.
