1. Five kidnappers have been killed by the Police at Egba Owode area of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. The​ gang was engaged in gunfire at a forest where they were holding their captive​, a​ policeman​, Stephen Adesokan​.​ Police Command spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, parad​ed​ the five corpses to newsmen at Egba Owode Divisional Police Headquarters,​ on Thursday​.

2. FIFA has announced dates for the 2018 World Cup qualifying games between Nigeria and Cameroon. According to the football governing body, the match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, which was earlier moved to August 31 for television purposes, has been moved back to the initial date of September 1. The return leg will now hold on September 4 in Yaounde.

3. Former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been named an independent non-executive Director at Standard Chartered PLC. According to a statement released by the company on Thursday, her appointment is effective from November 1, 2017. She will earn £130,000 per year, for her expertise in financial and development financing.

4. Unknown gunmen have kidnapped a medical Doctor attached to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH). The victim, Dr, Itoro Asanga according to eyewitness was abducted Wednesday night. Asanga was kidnapped along Goldie by Amika Utuk Street. The police has since confirmed the abduction.

5. Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has stated that the APC-led Senate has betrayed its pre-election promises by blocking the passage of Bill No. 3, which would have granted devolution of powers to the states. The APC chieftain described the decision as shocking and saddening in a statement released from his media office on Thursday.

6. The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has officially confirmed that Buhari has recovered and will soon return to the country. Oyegun, while addressing journalists on Thursday said the worst is over on the health of President Muhammadu Buhari.

7. The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new twist on Thursday, when police sealed off the party’s secretariat at Adekunle Fajuyi Way in Ikeja GRA, Lagos. Heavily armed mobile policemen took over the secretariat as two factions struggle for the leadership of the party.

8. The Arewa Youths have called for the immediate arrest of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB for violating court orders. Addressing a news conference in Abuja, the Speaker of the Arewa Youth Assembly, AYA, Mohammed Salihu and the Clerk, Desmond Minakaro, accused the Federal Government of aiding and abetting the IPOB leader to breach the bail conditions handed him by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja and inciting Nigerians against the government at major rallies in the South South and South East states.

9. Report says the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo has directed chief of Army staff, Tukur Buratai, and chief of Air staff, Sadique Abubakar, to relocate to Maiduguri, with immediate effect. This directive came after an emergency meeting with some service chiefs on Thursday. The actin said there was a need for them to be at the military command control centre in the hotbed of insurgency in order to end the war on time.

10. The Governors of 19 Northern States on Thursday, clarified that the region was not opposed to the restructuring of the country, contrary to widely held views by some persons and groups. Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum and Governor of Borno State, Ibrahim Shettima, said restructuring should be done within acceptable criteria and must be fair to all component parts of the country.
