1. Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Alhassan, on Thursday, insisted that there was no going back on her decision to support former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 presidential election.
According to her, before the 2015 general elections, Buhari promised that he would spend only one term in office to clean up the mess of the Peoples Democratic Party’s government.
2. The Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators, yesterday announced the withdrawal of their “quit notice” to northerners and Yorubas living and doing business in the Niger Delta region.
The coalition, in a statement signed by 13 militant leaders and sent via electronic mail, said the decision to withdraw the “quit notice” was reached after consultations with some stakeholders in the region.
3. The umbrella body for the Igbo, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo and leaders of the Niger Delta on Thursday backed the Yorubas on a demand for a return to regional government in Nigeria.
The groups said the importance of restructuring Nigeria was to move from the money-sharing anti-development economy to productivity, by ensuring that the federating units are free to own and develop their resources while they pay an agreed sum to the federation purse to implement certain services.
4. Kidnappers struck again in Rivers State on Thursday, waylaying an 18-seater bus and abducting the 19 occupants of the vehicle, including the driver.
The incident happened on Isiokpo-Elele Road in the Ikwerre Local Government Area, about 30 kilometres from Agip Junction in Port Harcourt, where the bus branded, Rivers Mass Transit Company, took off.
5. The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities had agreed on some demands of the union in the efforts to resolve the strike by the lecturers.
The striking union leaders said once they were able to resolve the contentious issues, they are willing to go back to their members in earnest and take the final decision on the action.
6. The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, on Thursday, said only about 15 per cent of funds allegedly misappropriated by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, had been recovered.
Magu, who said the commission was working with the United Kingdom on her case, noted that efforts were being made to extradite her back to Nigeria.
7. Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday confirmed at least one reported Lassa fever case, in each of the 19 states in the current outbreak.
The 19 states are Ogun, Bauchi, Plateau, Ebonyi, Ondo, Edo, Taraba, Nasarawa, Rivers, Kaduna, Gombe, Cross River, Borno, Kano, Kogi, Enugu, Anambra, Kwara, Lagos Ondo, Edo, Plateau, Bauchi, Ogun, Kaduna, Kwara and Lagos states.
8. Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, has claimed that his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari is not a politician.
Buhari, he said, has been known to be a disciplined retired military General who lived a simple and austere life devoid of ostentation.
9. Five persons have been arrested in connection with the death of Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Cyriacus Onunkwo.
Parading the suspects before newsmen in Owerri, on Thursday, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike discovered that the prime suspect is a 32-year-old ex-corporal, Jude Madu, who masterminded the abduction of the cleric.’=
10. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently reshuffle his cabinet.
NLC President Comrade Ayuba Wabba, said Buhari should rejig his cabinet because many ministers had not performed well.
