1. The Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigations into the mysterious death of one of Davido’s crew members, Tagbo. While disclosing that it’s awaiting the result of an autopsy conducted on the deceased to ascertain the cause of death, which would guide its investigations, the Acting Commissioner of Police in the state, Edgar Imohimi, said that he had met with Davido and other parties involved in the case.
2. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday released the timetable and schedule of activities for both the Ekiti and Osun states’ governorship elections. It announced July 14, 2018 as the date for Ekiti State election, while it fixed Osun’s election for September 22.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari has forwarded the name of Mrs Aishah Ahmad to the Senate for confirmation as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.Mrs Ahmad is expected to replace former CBN Deputy Governor, who retired early in the year. The president has also written to the Senate, seeking the confirmation of the appointment of members of the Monetary Policy Committee of the CBN.
4. Two House of Representatives members on Thursday cross-carpeted from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC. The lawmakers are Zaphaniah Gisalo representing Abuja Municipal Area Council/Buari and another member, Mr. Yusuf Tijani from Okene/Ogori-Magogo federal constituency of Kogi State.
5. Wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has filed a fundamental human rights enforcement suit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, asking for N2bn as compensation for alleged harassment by the anti-graft agency. She said mentioned the invasion of her properties and the freezing of her accounts, those of her siblings, relatives and her late mother, Mama Sisi Charity Oba as violation of her rights.
6. The Federal Ministry of Health has warned Nigerians against eating monkeys, bushmeat and dead animals in order to avoid the risk of contacting Monkey Pox disease. This follows reports that a medical doctor and no fewer than 10 persons have reportedly been quarantined in Bayelsa as a result of the virus. The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, said this in a statement by the Director, Media and Public Relations in the ministry, Mrs. Boade Akinola, on Thursday.
7. An High Court in Edo State has ordered the remand of the Woman Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Esosa Amadasun; a former Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Stephewn Alao; and three former members of the board i for allegedly looting N1.5bn. The presiding judge, Justice Ohimai Ovbiagele, gave the order pending the hearing on their bail application.
8. The sum of N16.67 billion each has been released to fund the construction and rehabilitation of 25 road projects across the six geo-political zones of the country. Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, on Thursday in Abuja handed over the cheque to the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.
9. The 3-year-old marriage between a popular radio presenter, Omotoke Makinwa and her estranged husband, Maje Ayida has ended. AnIgbosere High Court in Lagos on Thursday dissolved the union, citing husband’s adulterous lifestyle as the reason.
10. In sports, Head coach of Zambia, Wedson Nyirenda, has vowed to break the hearts of Nigerians, by defeating the Super Eagles in Saturday’s 2018 World Cup qualifier in Uyo. Nyirenda is confident his team can shock their hosts this weekend and go all the way to qualify for the World Cup. He said if the Eagles could defeat Zambia away, nothing stops them from beating Nigeria at home.
