1. President Muhammadu Buhari, has assured people of Akure, Ondo State that his government will give federal appointments to its indigenes.
The President made the promise when he visited the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, in his palace on Saturday.
2. Indications emerged Saturday that the police have submitted to the National Prosecution Coordination Committee, another report on the investigations into the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Orders, 2015.
The Special Investigation Panel, headed by a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ali Amodu in its fresh report indicted the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu.
3. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has launched a manhunt on Mrs. Moji Ladeji, the sister of Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, over a N200m house located at 44 Osun Crescent, Maitama, Abuja, a highbrow area in the nation’s capital.
According to court documents, the building, which has since been sealed off by the EFCC, was allegedly bought by Fayose from proceeds of corrupt practices but the title documents of the house bear the name of Fayose’s sister, a move the commission claimed was to cover the governor’s track.
4. The United States Department of Justice has denied having any record that indicates that Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has a pending lawsuit in the US.
Spokesperson for the US DOJ, Peter Carr said, “Thank you for reaching out to us. I have checked the public court records, and they do not show cases filed against a defendant named Atiku Abubakar.”
5. President Muhammadu Buhari has once again heaped the blames of the ongoing crisis facing the country on the previous government, headed by declared that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, between 1999 to 2015.
He however promised that his government would correct the wrongs that were done to the country by former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan of the PDP ruled the country during the period.
6. The Speaker, House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, yesterday revealed that there was no bill before the National Assembly seeking to introduce Sharia legal system in Nigeria.
According to him, by the provisions of the standing rules of the House, bills on constitution amendment were referred to the Special ad hoc committee on the Review of the Constitution.
7. Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has declared that in the event that the country is partitioned, only the Igbo nation can survive because of their resilience.
According to Fayose, there has been no politically motivated killing of anyone under his administration.
Fayose deplored those he called “fake political leaders” who are only accessible to the people when they are looking for votes only to buy bullet proof cars and erect artificial walls around themselves so that they would not be accessible to the people after the poll.
8. The Oyo/Osun Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized a bullion van belonging to a commercial bank in Nigeria, but used in smuggling rice into the country through the land border.
The bullion van meant for conveyance of bank currency was intercepted by operatives of Oyo/Osun Customs loaded with smuggled rice through a tip off.
9. The Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has said that the Federation Account allocations to the 36 states in the country have crashed by an average of N2bn per state every month.
Emefiele said Nigeria was facing “a classical case of economic stagflation” occasioned by external shocks.
10. Bishop Benjamin Kwashi of the Anglican Diocese, Jos, has called for life imprisonment for any political office holder caught diverting funds allocated for the development of education, health matters and the economy.
According to Kwashi, that funds earmarked for the three sectors were important and their judicious usage would directly touch on the lives of the people
