1. Leader of the Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) Uchenna Madu has hit back at presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu, over his claim that Fulani herdsmen are criminals, while IPOB members are terrorists.
Madu said Shehu’s comment has confirmed its earlier position that armed Fulani herdsmen killing Christians were being sponsored by the APC government.
2. Governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra and CEO of Capital Oil and Gas Ifeanyi Ubah has been axed by the National Working committee of the party.
Similarly, the senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district Buruju Kashamu has been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee.
3. The government of France has denied any links with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the group seeking a referendum to carve out a separate country in the South East region of Nigeria. Embassy of France in Nigeria said the statement credited to Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohamned indicating that the “financial headquarters” of IPOB was in France was false.
4. The Igbo socio-cultural group in Nigeria, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, said the country should not be allowed to undergo another civil war.
The President-General of the group, Chief John Nwodo, said the group acknowledged that although, the country was in a trying times, the cohesion that existed over the years should be maintained.
5. A former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff on Thursday held a meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Osinbajo went into the closed-door meeting with Sheriff shortly after presiding over a meeting of the National Economic Management Team where he was shortly joined by the APC national chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun.
6. The Federal Government has reached an agreement with the Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and National Association of Academic Technologists. Consequently, the workers have announced the suspension of their strike.
The SSANU President, Samson Ugwoke disclosed that the workers reached an agreement with the Federal Government at a meeting, which began at 4.30 pm on Wednesday and ended at 12.20 am on Thursday.
7. President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday departed the USA for London, where he would see his UK doctors.
The president who is supposed to see his doctors on Saturday, September 23, for a scheduled medical appointment will fly back to Nigeria after a check-up.
8. The United Kingdom has denied receiving any request from the Nigerian government to shut down Radio Biafra.
The British High Commission, in a statement by its Press & Public Affairs Officer, Joe Abuku, said the UK is not aware of any representation from the Nigerian government about Radio Biafra.
9. The death has been announced of L’Oreal heiress, Liliane Bettencourt, the world’s richest woman.
Bettencourt passed away in the early hours of Thursday after suffering from dementia at the age of 94.
10. The Black Stars of Ghana will square up against fierce rivals Nigeria, in the final of this year’s West Africa Football Union (WAFU) cup.
This follows their 2-0 victory over Niger Republic, in the second semi-final on Thursday night.
