Nigerian Navy captures vessel laden with 4,000 tons of stolen oil


The Nigerian Navy has paraded an MT Camilee vessel alleged to be laden with 4,000 metric tons of stolen crude oil at the Wari naval base in Delta State, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

In addition to the ship, 11 crew members were also apprehended by Naval officials.

Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Central Naval Command, Yenagoa, Rear Adm. Apochi Suleiman informed members of the press that the ship was intercepted on November 15th. The admiral went on to note that the 11 crew members were currently under interrogation.

Admiral Suleiman claimed that the arrest was a major breakthrough in the fight against oil theft and banditry. He expressed confidence in the Nigerian Navy’s capacity to defeat bandits and pirates citing the Navy’s “state of the art technology”.

According to Naval officials the captain of the captured vessel admitted to committing oil theft.
