Nigerian govt wades into NBC, DSO crisis

The Federal Government may have resolved the crisis threatening the implementation of the Digital Switch Over (DSO) from analogue television broadcasts in the country under the supervision of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

PRNigeria reports that the National Security Adviser, retired Major General Mohammed Baba Gana Monguno, summoned critical stakeholders in the DSO to a meeting where the contentious issues involved were discussed and resolved.

Present at the meeting were Senator-Elect and Chairman of the NBC Board, Ikra Bilbis, NBC boss, Ishaq Modibbo Kawu, the CEO of Details Nigeria Limited, operators of Goth, John Ugbe, COO of Pinnacle Communications Limited, Dipo Onifade and Chairman, Pinnacle Communications Limited, Sir Lucky Omoluwa.

The NSA told the stakeholders that the Federal Government was determined to uphold its policy on DSO and to also ensure that private investors in the Nigerian economy are not discouraged.

The meeting, which lasted about three hours witnessed the diplomatic negotiation that facilitated a resolution of the five-year-old dispute, which had incessantly interrupted smooth implementation of the DSO in missing set deadlines twice.
