A Nigerian doctor practicing in Canada, identified as Adekunle Owolabi has been found guilty in a court in the north American country for inquiring of a female patient if she likes big or small penis.
Owolabi, a Labrador West physician had his medical licence suspended for six months and will be chaperoned when seeing a female patient when he returns to work after he was found guilty of four counts of professional misconduct.
He was reported to have asked a woman during a Pap test if she “liked big ones or small ones.”
According to Toronto Metro, Dr Owolabi was yesterday found guilty of four counts of professional misconduct by a three-person tribunal established by the provincial College of Physicians and Surgeons after a six-day hearing earlier this year.
According to the newspaper, four female patients had earlier accused the Nigeria-trained doctor of making sexual comments, and of inappropriate hugging and kissing.
Adekunle must take a course on appropriate doctor-patient boundaries before he would be allowed to resume his practice and was also ordered to pay $75,000 in costs related to the investigation and disciplinary process.
The Nigerian was found to have shown a lack of respect for the dignity and privacy of his patients, constituting professional misconduct in four of the separate complaints.
He has, however, been given 30 days to appeal the rule to the trial division of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.
