An Indonesian court has sentenced a Nigerian man, Uzoma Elele Alpha to life in imprisonment over drugs related offences.

According to reports, Alpha was handed the life sentence for having in possession methamphetamine and marijuana worth $451,400.

DAILY POST gathered that Alpha was lucky to have bagged life imprisonment as the prosecutors wanted him to be sentenced to death.

The convict was arrested in his apartment at the Margonda Residence tower in Depok last December when operatives of Indonesian Immigration raided the tower.

During the raid, Alpha failed to present valid travel documents; this led to his arrest and subsequent drug test. He however tested positive to marijuana.

As a follow up, the police raided Alpha’s apartment where they found seven kilograms of methamphetamine and 300 grams of marijuana.

It would be recalled that Indonesia earlier in the year received global condemnation for executing drugs convicts in which 12 foreign nationals and two Indonesians were killed through firing squad.
