Nigerian Army kills six suicide bombers in Maiduguri

The Nigeria Army, has killed six suspected suicide bombers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

DAILY POST gathered that the suicide bombers were killed while attempting to enter into the town at the Mafa checkpoint, 9 kilometres away from Maiduguri.

The deceased militants were said to have arrived the spot with three other suicide bombers who detonated their explosives at Muna Motor Park in the night of Thursday.

While two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, CJTF, were killed, eight other members were allegedly injured.

A highly placed military source who requested not to be mentioned confirmed the report to DAILY POST, on Friday, saying, “It’s true the incident happened but I don’t have details now, when I do you will surely get it.”

Also confirming the incident, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, however said seven suicide bombers were killed and seven CJTF were injured.

In a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Sani Datti, NEMA said the bombers most of whom were women came through Mafa- Dikwa road along Muna community.

The statement said, “The suicide bombers came in a Volkswagen Golf carrying eight suicide bombers most of whom were female teenagers.

“The driver attempted to overrun the security post where the security personnels were stationed, but few of the personnels sustained minor injuries, while the remaining bombers detonated their IED in some of the communities in Muna Dalti settlement.

“Seven (7) Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) sustained minor injuries and were taken to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH). Some of the suicide bombers found their way to a place where people gathered with their trucks loaded with goods for onward movement to Mafa, Dikwa and Ngala LGAs.”

“Over 14 loaded trucks were burnt by the suicide bombers though no casualty was recorded. The seven corpses of the suicide bombers were evacuated to the State Specialist Hospital by NEMA and Borno SEMA team.”
