The Nigerian Army has officially flagged off the Operation Cat Race (Ayem Akpatuma) in Benue State.
Launching the exercise on Tuesday, the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, said be exercise would flush out criminal elements from Benue and its environs.
According to him, the exercise would bring under control endless herders/farmers crisis and other security challenges.
He said, “We shall ensure the full application of the rules of engagement. We shall not tolerate any act that will jeopardize the peace in this area.
“We are not targeting any ethnic or religious groups, we are targeting criminals.”
On his part the state governor, Samuel Ortom, expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for ordering the deployment of the military to the state to tackle the security challenges there.
The governor told journalists in Makurdi on Monday that the deployment of the troops to the state would help restore peace.
