An Abuja-based Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Yahya Al-Yolawi, has advised Muslims to repent and seek forgiveness from Allah to ensure speedy recovery from the current economic recession.

Al-Yolawi, who is also the Chief Imam of Area 10 Juma’at Mosque, Abuja, gave the advice while delivering the Weekly Juma’at Sermon on Friday.

The cleric also stressed the need for adherents of Islam to abide by the teachings of the religion and eschew corruption, oppression and immoralities to enhance peace in the country.

He said that in Islam, recession, poverty, natural disasters and afflictions were considered to be test or trials for the people due to their sins and constant disobedience to Allah.

“ These situations serve as a wake-up call to people to come back to their senses, embark on repentance and seek forgiveness from the Almighty Allah.

“ If only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, we would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth.

“ But they denied the messengers, so we seized them for what they were earning, Qur’an verse 7:96,” he said.

Al-Yolawi also advised the Federal Government to intensify efforts at addressing the current the economic problems by accepting sincere experts’ suggestions.

He also admonished Nigerians, irrespective of their political inclinations, to support the Buhari administration to enable it to effectively tackle the prevailing economic recession.

“ Security and economic issues are very sensitive, and as such, should not be politicised.

“ We should all pray for the present administration to succeed for the good of our dear nation, “ the cleric said. (NAN)
