Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has explained why Moses Simon gets the nod ahead of returning Alex Iwobi, in the team to face Zambia on Saturday in a 2018 World Cup qualifier.
Iwobi is back in the team after missing their back-to-back games against Cameroon.
Moses Simon featured in both games from the left side of attack and was on target in the 1-1 draw.
According to Rohr, the goal puts him in a strong position to start ahead of Iwobi.
“I’m happy to have already the choice because we have good competition, a fair competition between our players.
“We had two good games against Cameroon, because Moses Simon scored in the second game, he can start against Zambia. It’s a good thing in the team to have several possibilities for the starting team.
“Somebody can start the game, the other one can finish it. So we need everybody, we need Alex, we need Simon, we need all the 23 players we have, and I’m really happy about the spirit in the team because there’s no problem in the team.
“If Alex starts or not, it’s not the problem. The most important thing is to win the game,” Rohr stated.
