Nigeria vs South Africa: Babangida tells Super Eagles how to beat Bafana Bafana

Former Nigeria international, Tijani Babangida, has advised Gernot Rohr’s Super Eagles on what to do to beat South Africa national team ahead of both sides’ 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, quarter-final fixture on Wednesday at the Cairo International Stadium.

Babangida urged Rohr’s men to play positive football and to make use of the speed of forwards, Ahmed Musa and Moses Simon against the Bafana Bafana in order to progress to the competition’s last four.

The ex-winger, who scored two goals in Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over South Africa at the 2000 AFCON semi-final encounter, told Goal: “We should play positive football, just like the way we played against them in South Africa. By doing so, the defence won’t be vulnerable when we are going on the attack.

“We must use our wingers because that is where our power lies, and positive football is from the wing play. We also have [Ahmed] Musa and [Moses] Simon for speed.”

Babangida added: “Our defenders need to be very attentive and need to quickly decide on the ball. The midfielders also have a lot to do to help the defence.”
