Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has spoken on why he called Arsenal loanee, Kelechi Nwakali for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Seychelles.
Rohr included Nwakali in his 23-man squad that he submitted to the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, on Friday.
The German tactician, however, said he invited the 20-year-old so he could prove his worth.
“I invited Nwakali to give him the chance to prove himself. I hope we can play against Saudi Arabia in the friendly match,” Rohr was quoted by allnigeriasoccer as saying at Friday’s press conference.
“The technical crew will watch him closely at the training sessions. He is a very young player at Porto B. He has to be disciplined and integrated in a new club and the national team.
“We will give him the opportunity to work and show what he can do.”
Nwakali featured for the Super Eagles Team B in a post-season friendly against Atletico Madrid in Uyo on May 22, 2018.
The attacking midfielder has captained Nigeria at U17 and U20 level.
He is currently on a season-long loan with Portuguese side, FC Porto B from Arsenal.
