Super Eagles forward, Samuel Kalu has disclosed that Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat to Madagascar at the 2019 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, on Sunday was a wake-up call to Gernot Rohr’s men.
He also promised that the Super Eagles will do their best in the round of 16.
DAILY POST had reported that the Super Eagles on Sunday lost 2-0 to Madagascar in their final Group B fixture at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
Lalaina Nomenjanahary pounced on Leon Balogun’s slip in the 13th minute to give Madagascar a shock lead.
The Super Eagles came out fighting in the second half, but Carolus Andriamahitsinoro made it 2-0, ending the encounter as a contest.
Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone after yesterday’s game, the Bordeaux star said: ”I am very happy today to start a game with the team, so I feel excited. In the round of 16, we will do our best.
”I must say we did not believe this at all, it is a wake-up call to us, to be ready and sharp for the round of 16.”
Madagascar finished top with seven points, while Nigeria are runners-up with six points.
