Nigeria vs Guinea: NFF explains delay in paying Super Eagles their AFCON 2019 bonuses

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has explained why there was a delay in paying the Super Eagles players their bonuses.

Ademola Olajire, the NFF’s spokesman, claimed it was because the federation received part of the money meant for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations late.

However, they are in the process of converting it to dollars and the players would be paid very soon.

“The matter has been resolved. The NFF received part of the money meant for the tournament today and is in the process of converting it to dollars to pay the players and officials.

“The only money they’re owed is the win-bonus for the Burundi match,” Olajire told reporters.

Nigeria players snubbed today’s press conference, with Gernot Rohr appearing alone to answer questions.

They also threatened to boycott training in the evening, but captain John Mikel Obi eventually prevailed on his team-mates to take to the pitch.

The Eagles take on Guinea tomorrow, with a win enough to qualify them for the Round of 16, after beating Burundi 1-0 in their first game.
