Nigeria vs Czech Republic: Why Iwobi, Moses, Mikel, others missed Eagles’ training ahead of clash

Arsenal star, Alex Iwobi and Chelsea wing-back, Victor Moses were among a sizable number of Super Eagles players that did not participate in full training with the squad during Monday evening’s workout.

Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr disclosed during his post-match press conference ahead of Czech clash that Iwobi suffered from cramps in the closing minutes of Nigeria’s 2-1 loss to England.

Rohr said, “No he’s fine. He (Iwobi) suffered only cramps. Other players had cramp issues too which shows the effect of travelling from Uyo to Port Harcourt, then to Abuja to see the President and then coming here.”

He added, “I’m happy now that we don’t have real injuries. Only cramps.”

Iwobi worked out in the gym and was seen exercising in the swimming pool.

However, Captain John Obi Mikel, defenders, William Troost-Ekong and Brian Idowu also did not train fully, having lasted the full ninety minutes against England.

The trio worked in the gym along with Victor Moses, who was subbed out in the 63rd minute on Saturday.

Brighton defender, Leon Balogun’s availability for the friendly against Czech Republic is covered in mist.

The center-back had to be taken off the pitch to receive medical treatment following a clash of heads with midfielder, Joel Obi prior to his substitution at half-time during Eagles’ clash with Three Lions.

Balogun only participated in running exercises.
