Super Eagles manager, Gernot Rohr entered the history book during Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

William Ekong scored for Nigeria in the 15th minute of the first half while Mpoku Paul-Jose equalized for the Congolese with a penalty in the 77th minute.

Rohr however made history by becaming the first Nigeria coach to field four foreign-born defenders following the introduction of Ola Aina at half-time as replacement for Monaco’s Elderson Echiejile.

The three-time African champions began the second half against the Leopards with William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun, who were born in Netherlands and Germany, occupying the central defensive positions, with Dutch-born Ebuehi at right-back and Londoner Aina playing at left-back.

Speaking after the game in Port Harcourt, Rohr told reporters, “It was a very good match because we played against a very good team from Congo. They came with a great squad.

“The game was a good test for the players particularly those who we didn’t know very well. I’m satisfied with the performance of Simy. He is a natural centre forward. He didn’t have a profile until we found him.”

Rohr’s side will face England on June 2 at Wembley, before facing Czech Republic in their final pre-World Cup game in Austria on 6th June.
