Nigeria and Turkey have agreed to partner in the area of defence and security.
This decision was reached during a bilateral meeting between the Defence Minister of Nigeria Mansur Dan-Ali and his Turkish counterpart Mr Nurettin Canikli held at Ministry of National Defence in Ankara.
The visit which is part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s trip to Turkey for D-8 meeting summit, also agreed to sign three Memorandum of Understanding on Military Cooperation Agreement (MCA) Military Training Cooperation Agreement(MTCA) and Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement (DICA).
When ratified by the parliaments of the two countries, the agreement will enable the training of personnel in both countries military institutions and joint military exercises.
Colonel Tukur Gusau, Public Relations Officer to the Minister, in a statement made available to DAILY POST, quoted Mr. Dan-Ali as urging the Turkish government to support the present administration’s efforts in promoting global peace and security.
In his response, Mr Canikli thanked Nigeria for containing the Boko Haram insurgency and called for closer cooperation with Nigeria which he noted share a lot of similarities with Turkey.
