Delta Decides: Ogboru, wife cast votes in Delta community

The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State, Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru and his wife, Stella at about 12:05 pm cast their votes at Unit 8, Ward 1 in Abraka Grammar School in Abraka, Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

In a chat with newsmen shortly after casting his votes

, Chief Ogboru said there were pockets of violence in the riverine communities in Delta State.

He added that there was also security lapses in some areas during the elections.

Chief Ogboru who is contesting the governorship elections for the fifth time expressed confidence that ” victory ” is sure for him this time.

Chief Ogboru also thanked his supporters for standing behind him over the years.

Armed thugs forcing people to vote APC in Oyo

Some voters in Ogbomosho South Local Government Area of Oyo State are being coerced to vote the candidates of the All Congress (APC) in the ongoing governorship and State Assembly elections in the state.

Armed touts in Ward 4 Polling Unit 5, Polling Unit 6 and Polling Unit 7, Ogbomosho south, are forcing voters to show their ballot papers after voting before depositing them into the respective ballot boxes

This act of election malpractice is discouraging voters from casting their votes as many return to their various homes.

The polling unit area is that of Buhari Abdulfatai, the APC winner of the February 23 senatorial election in the area.

Fatai’s win makes him the first senator to win election twice in Oyo North Senatorial District.

About 37 candidates are contesting the Oyo State governorship seat.

However, the contest is a two-horse race between Oluseyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kano decides: Ganduje votes, speaks on winning governorship poll by wide margin


The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar on Saturday said he was confident of winning the gubernatorial election with wide margin.

Ganduje spoke shortly after casting his vote at his 003 Ganduje primary school PU, Ganduje ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area at exactly 10.30am alongside his wife, Hajia Hafsat Umar Ganduje.

According to the governor, “I’m sure of victory and in fact, I am sure I will get more votes than what Mr President got during the presidential election in Kano.

“I’m sure of victory and in fact, I am sure I will get more votes than what Mr President got during the presidential election in Kano.

“I will encourage Kano people to vote the best candidate but as a Governor, I will ask them to vote for me and all APC candidates for the state house of assembly.”

Plateau Decides: Police hands over intercepted materials to INEC


The Plateau State Police Command has handed over sensitive and non-sensitive materials intercepted at the Independent Electoral Commission’s gate to the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Halilu Pai.

The Commissioner of Police, Isaac Akimoyede who said he was handing the materials in the presence of party representatives, the returning officer, among other stakeholders to ensure transparency noted that the materials remain intact.

Akimoyede said some allegations following the incident where an INEC staff was caught at the gate with electoral materials were untrue and gave the assurance that the staff would be dealt with accordingly.

Receiving the materials, the REC, Halilu Pai who acknowledged that the materials are intact explained that they will again be displayed before being used at the venue of collation to ensure transparency.

Commenting on the election so far, Pai said the commencement had been successful and the atmosphere more peaceful.

Delta Decides: Okowa votes, speaks on thugs from Edo disrupting polls


Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence in his re-election bid.

Okowa who voted at exactly 8.40am at Unit 03 of Ward 02 (Oni Primary School), Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area, told newsmen that his administration had partnered very well with the people to warrant a renewal of his mandate.

He, however, expressed worries about the threats by a section of the political class to disrupt the process with thugs allegedly imported from neighbouring Edo State.

Okowa commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for deploying more corps members for the conduct of the election.

“I will emerge victorious at the end of the day. We have partnered well with Deltans in the last four years, and I and very convinced that they will vote for me.

“But the only thing is those planning to disrupt the election with thugs from Edo State, but God will not allow that to happen,” the governor said.

Nigeria Decides: Sen. Adeleke speaks on reclaiming mandate at Tribunal


Senator Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun on Saturday expressed optimism of emerging victorious at the Governorship Election Tribunal.

He spoke after casting his vote at exactly 9:01 am at Unit 09 Ward 02 Polling Unit at Sagba-Abogunde area, Ede.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adeleke is challenging the victory of Gov. Gboyega Oyetola in the Sept. 27, 2018 rerun governorship election in the state.

” I am sure of victory at the Osun Governorship Tribunal because of the confidence I have in the judiciary system of this country,’’ he said.

Adeleke, however, said Saturday’s State House of Assembly election had been peaceful, expressing confidence that the PDP would emerge victorious.

He commended INEC for the successful conduct of the House of Assembly election, saying the exercise had so far been hitch-free in Ede.

Adeleke urged the electorate to be patient while waiting to be accredited so as to ensure a peaceful conclusion of the exercise.

Anambra election: Low turn out of voters in Assembly polls


The House of Assembly election in Anambra State has witnessed low turnout of voters, DAILY POST reports.

As at 9 am, most polling centres were devoid of human presence, even though INEC officials resumed as early as 7:45am.

At Aroma ward one in Awka, Awka South Local Government Area, only few voters had turned out as at 9am.

An observer, Mr Okey Ajuka told our correspondent that the low turnout was expected, especially as there was no governorship election in the state.

Anambra is among the States that hold separate governorship election, and had held its governorship election in 2017.

Ajuka said, “Last two weeks Saturday was different because of the influence of the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Peter Obi made people to put their interest in the election.

“I think the only places were high turn out will be registered are in places where they have candidates.

“There is no governorship election in Anambra, so we are not surprised that there is low turn out in this Saturday’s election.”

 postpones election in Kogi LG, gives reasons

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has postponed the state House of Assembly election across Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The Electoral Officer, Mopamuro LGA, Mr Opanachi Ojodale, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), at the INEC office in Mopa, that the election was postponed to Sunday March 10, due to wrong ballot papers that were taken to the area.

According to Ojodale, the ballot papers belonging to Akpa LGA in Kogi East, were taken to Mopamuro LGA, a development that was discovered in the early hours of Saturday (election day).

He told NAN that the new ballot papers for Mopamuro would arrive the LG office later in the day, from Abuja.

Meanwhile, some youths of Orokere community had earlier on Saturday conducted a peaceful demonstration to the palace of their traditional ruler, to protest against the alleged importation of thugs to their community by suspected opposition party members.

The youths alleged that the thugs were imported by some politicians in the area to cause mayhem and disrupt the electoral process.

Mr Segun Peter, the youth leader, who spoke on behalf of the youths at the palace, urged the monarch to call the politicians to order so as to forestall a breakdown of law and order during the elections.

“The thugs threatened to disrupt the electoral process in the community, and unleash terror on members of opposition parties.

“The thugs also threatened that voters, who have decided not to vote for their candidates should not bother to come out to vote.

“We are peace-loving people, our youths are ready to stand firm and resist any form of intimidation to protect our votes,” Peter said.

Kogi Decides: Gov Bello speaks after voting

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State voted at about 8.38 a.m. at Agasa Uvete Polling Unit 011 in Okene Local Government Area.

Gov Bello and two of his wives spent about 15 minutes to go through accreditation and voting unlike the February 23 elections when the card reader failure kept the governor for over two hours before voting.

The process went smoothly with the card reader working well.

Speaking, the governor commended INEC for a job well done in terms of timely arrival of materials and personnel.

Bello, however, observed that the turnout was not impressive when compared with that Feb. 23 election.

In Lokoja, the state capital, election started few minutes after 8.00 a.m. in many polling units.

NAN reports that voting and accreditation were also going on peacefully in other parts of Okene like Adavi, Ihima, Okengwe, Eika and Kuroko, among others.

Voting commences in Gombe

Voting for the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections commenced at exactly 8 a.m in many parts of Gombe State.

A News Agency of Nigeria correspondent who monitored the exercise in Gombe metropolis reports that turnout of voters is impressive.

NAN reports that voters were on the queues as early as 6 a.m, waiting for the exercise to commence.

At polling unit 008 and 006 at Kamara Primary School, the Presiding Officer, Augustin Kuji, said that everything needed for the election was on ground and the card readers were working perfectly.

In Pantami/Malamkuri Primary School, the Presiding Officer, Maryam Yayaji, said so far, they had encountered no problem and voting had commenced.

Also, Mr Adams Emmanuel, the Presiding Officer at Justice Pindiga Street, polling unit 017, said that voting started at exactly 8 a.m because they had everything they needed on ground.

At Kofan Parashi, polling unit 003, voting commenced at exactly 8 a.m.

The Presiding Officer, Mr Barkindo Mohammed, said: “this time around we have not encountered any problem, everything is going on smoothly.

At the polling unit in Jauro Abare, voters were seen already casting their votes by 8 a.m.

INEC suspends voting at Sanwo-Olu’s polling unit

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has temporarily suspended the commencement of voting at the polling unit of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s in Ikoyi, Lagos,

This is coming after some card readers were malfunctioning and did not accredit some voters.

Nigeria decides: Buhari, Aisha cast votes in Daura


President Muhammadu Buhari and his wife, Aisha, on Saturday, joined hundreds of another electorate to exercise their franchise at the polling unit 003 Kofar Baru III, Gidan Niyam, Daura, Katsina State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the president, accompanied by his wife, arrived the polling unit at about 8.00a.m, where both of them were cleared and issued ballot papers by the unit presiding officer, Aliyu Abdullahi.

The president and his wife, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) numbers 187 and 182 respectively, voted at exactly 8.08 a.m. to elect their preferred candidates for Katsina State governorship and House of Assembly legislators.

The duo had performed similar civic responsibility during the Feb. 23 Presidential and National elections at the same polling unit.

On Saturday, March 9, 2019, Nigerians will go to the poll, to vote in the governorship elections.

The election will hold in 29 out of the 36 states in the country.

Some of the standout battles include Lagos [Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) vs Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)]; Benue [Governor Samuel Ortom (PDP) vs Emmanuel Jime (APC)]; Kwara [Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq (APC) vs Abdulrazaq Atunwa (PDP)]; Abia [Okezie Ikpeazu (PDP) vs Alex Otti (APGA)]; amongst others.

Also, on the same day, about 14,000 candidates will vie for 991 State House of Assembly seats.
