Nigerian Lawyer and Human rights Activist, Femi Falana (SAN) has decried the manner local government elections are conducted in Nigeria.

According to him, the local government elections conducted in Nigeria were the worst in Africa.

Speaking in an interview with Plus TV Africa on Wednesday, Falana said: “We shouldn’t be saying all the time, we shouldn’t be talking of the credible elections, free and fair elections of 1993 while we are sinking into unbelievable embarrassment in terms of conducting elections in our country.

“And I’m not talking of General elections alone, Local government elections conducted in Nigeria are the worst in Africa.”

Speaking on the democracy day celebration being moved back to June 12 by the Federal Government, Falana praised the Buhari-led administration for recognizing the symbolism of the June 12, 1993 elections.

“For 25 years, successive regimes in Nigeria pretended that that day (June 12, 1993) was irrelevant, but the current administration deemed it wise to stop that denial by recognizing the symbolism of the June 12 elections.”
