Two foreign miners kidnapped in Kaduna state on the 23rd January, 2018 by gunmen have been rescued by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria police.
Mr Thomas Arnold Pearce and Mr Hendrik Gideon Smith, both of South African nationale, were reportedly adopted in Maidaro village while carrying out minning activities.
Their abductors later took them to Birnin Gwari forest in Kaduna state.
According to a Police source, the two foreigners were rescued 3am on Saturday, following intense pressure on the kidnappers by the IRT, Police Airwing helicopter patrol and Kaduna State Command Police.
The source said the victims were moved from Kaduna to Abuja immediately after the successful rescue mission and were handed over to the South African Embassy and their company representatives by 7am, for medicals and other immediate needs.
Our source said further that, “the victims are in good health condition and they have given useful information to the Police that will help in their investigation”.
“Some suspects have been arrested and serious efforts to arrest remaining gang members were in progress,” the source added.
