Nigeria Immigration rescues 38 victims of human trafficking in Katsina

The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has arrested four suspected human traffickers and 38 of their victims.

Mr. Ajisafe Joshua Olusola, the Command’s Comptroller, stated this on Wednesday while presenting to newsmen nine victims of the activities of the traffickers in the state.

Mr. Olusola, who said the victims were rescued by its operatives at the Charanchi patrol base of the state, stated that a total of four suspected human traffickers and 38 of their victims were intercepted and rescued between February 2018 till date.

He urged members of the public to assist its operatives with information to enable them fight human trafficking and child labour in the state.

According Olusola, “From 7th February, 2018 to date the Command successfully intercepted a total number of four (4) suspected traffickers, three (3) were males and one (1) female, also rescued are thirty-eight (38) suspected victims of human trafficking of which nineteen (19) were females and nineteen (19) males.

“As you can see before you, these nine (9) rescued suspected victims will be handed over to our service headquarters Abuja for further investigation.

“The suspects were between the age of twenty one (21) and fourth-three (43) years and most of them hailed from different states of the federation, three (3) suspected victims from Ogun State, one (1) from Abia, one (1) from Oyo, one (1) from Imo State, one (1) from Edo, One (1) from Osun State and one (1) from Enugu State respectively.

He added, “I would like to use this opportunity to call on the public to assist the Nigeria Immigration Service with vital information about human trafficking and child labour activities in the state. This information would assist the Nigeria Immigration Service in fighting and preventing this menace in the country.”
