Nigeria elections: Saraki raises alarm

President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has warned the public to be wary of the fake news against him on the social media.

Olu Onemola, his Special Assistant on new media, in a statement on Tuesday, said the All Progressives Congress (APC) was behind the false information.

In a series of tweets on his handle, Onemola said the ruling party was promoting inciting news through their agents.

He tweeted: “My attention has been drawn to a piece of fake news that is circulating on WhatsApp.

“Again, as we prepare for the Presidential Election, the ruling APC is getting desperate and has resorted to pushing out fake news through its paid mercenaries online.

“The Senate President, who serves as the DG of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, has consistently reiterated that the PDP will run an issues-based campaign — not resort to underhanded tactics as the APC is doing.

“The public will recall that just last week, the APC was caught in two lies — with one of these cases involving the clear forgery of a foreigners signature.

“As the APC continues its desperation, the public should stay focused on the fact that the 2019 General elections are only a few days away, and no amount of fake and discredited news will change our minds as we work to elect a new government led by the People’s Democratic Party”.
