Nigeria elections: Civil Defence deploys 800 personnel in Yobe

Yobe State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps said it has deployed 800 personnel to ensure smooth conduct of the Saturday’s rescheduled Presidential/National Assembly elections.

The State Commandant of Corps, Ayilola Taye Olowo disclosed this to DAILY POST Friday ahead of the polls.

He expressed the commitment of the command in protecting lives and to ensure a peaceful exercise.

According to him, the personnel of the command would execute their duties diligently without fear or favour to ensure that people cast their votes and elect leaders of their choice.

“I assure you that my officers and men are ready for the security task ahead of them and therefore, I am urging members of the public to be law abiding and avoid acts that would promote security breach”, Olowo appealed.

He furthered noted that the 800 personnel were deployed to the 178 wards in the 17 local government areas of the state to interact with the people with a view to getting familiar with the locals for effective intelligence gathering ahead of the Saturday’s elections.

Meanwhile, Yobe State Police Command said the command has put all measures in place to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for the good and law-abiding citizens of the state to exercise their franchise before, during and after the election.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abdulmalik Abdulhafeez and made available to DAILY POST indicated that, “the leadership of the command advised all co-inhabitants of the state not to allow themselves to be used by unscrupulous element to incite any kind of public disturbance/violence, as anyone found wanting will face the wrath of the law.”

The Spokesman in the statement disclosed that on the day of the election, that is Saturday, February 23rd,2019, there will be restriction in vehicular movement within and around the state from 0600 am to 0600 pm.
