Nigeria election result: What happened inside Aso Villa after Buhari defeated Atiku [VIDEO]

There were shouts of celebration and congratulations after President Muhammadu Buhari was announced as the winner of this year’s presidential election on Wednesday morning.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the declaration at the collation center in Abuja.

The President’s Special Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmaad, posted a video on Twitter of the exact moment Buhari was pronounced winner.

Ahmaad wrote alongside the short clip: “The moment President Muhammadu Buhari declared winner by Chairman INEC, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu. A historic moment. Congratulations Nigerians! #NigeriaDecides #PMB4Plus4

Buhari and Osinbajo will be presented their certificates of return by 2pm later today.

Buhari polled a total of 15,191,847 votes, compared to the 11,262,978 votes recorded by Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

A total of 73 presidential candidates participated in the election which held on Saturday.
