The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused the Nigerian police of plotting with ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to rig the just-concluded presidential and the National Assembly elections in Jigawa State.
PDP chieftain in the state, Mustapha Sule Lamido, and PDP Senatorial candidate Jigawa North Central, made the allegation in an interview with Freedom Radio in Dutse while responding on the outcome of the February 23, 2019 election.
Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu of the All Progressives Congress APC, a serving senator representing Jigawa North Central zone, emerged as winner with 224,543 votes against the PDP candidate, Mustapha Sule Lamido, who bagged 143,611 votes.
The Jigawa North Central includes: Birnin Kudu, Gwaram, Miga, Jahun, Dutse, Buji local government areas.
Mustapha is a son of former governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido.
He alleged that APC in the state used the police to rig the election, escorted APC chieftains to poling units and harassed PDP members to buy votes from the electorates.
Lamido said that the state commissioner of police, CP Bala Zama Sanchi had since been transferred from the state, but refused to move to his new posting because of “bad motives”.
“He already showed that he was behind the ruling party APC in the state so there is no any basis of his staying in the state,” he said.
Mustapha also threatened that the PDP will boycott the coming gubernatorial election in the state if the police commissioner failed to move from the state before the governorship and state assembly elections.
All Progressives Congress, APC, in Jigawa state had won all the senatorial seats for Jigawa North East, North West, North Central and all the eleven House of Representatives seats, also delivered the 27 local government areas in the state to President Muhammadu Buhari with clear margin of 504,843 votes against the PDP candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
