The Chairman House Committee on Internally Displaced Persons, (IDPs), Refugees and North-East Initiatives, Malam Sani Zorro, has accused member representing Gagarawa Local Government in the Jigawa House of Assembly, Ibrahim Kadaita, of snatching a ballot box and disrupting the just-concluded Governorship and State House of Assembly election in the area.
Zorro alleged that the lawmaker committed the act in Gayyawar Malam Polling Unit in Garin Chiroma Ward of Gagarawa local government, NAN reports.
Zorro, who is representing Gagarawa, Suletankarkar, Gumel and Maigari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC), made the allegation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.
He said Kadaita connived with a Police Officer and used thugs to perpetuate the act.
“The state assembly member sponsored thugs to disrupt and snatch the ballot box in Gayyawar Malam Polling Unit to de-enfranchise the people because they said that they will not vote for him again.
“I quickly reported the matter to the Police Area Commander In-Charge, Gumel Zone, for quick intervention and the matter was brought under control to avert violence,” Zorro said.
However, when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in Jigawa, SP Abdu Jinjiri, said that the Divisional Police Officer in Gagarawa had reported that the election in the area was peaceful.
Also contacted, the Jigawa Assembly member, Kadaita, denied the allegation, but declined to speak further.
