The crisis in All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a new dimension as two agents of the same party (APC) showed up at collation centres and attempted to sign result sheets.
Revealing this to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Frankland Briyai in Calabar during the presentation of election results for Obudu, the Returning Officer, Dr Tony Inyang lamented that the two agents struggled to sign the result sheet.
“We refused them to sign because the document only has provision for one signature. We ask them to sort themselves out and come out with authenticated and accredited member but they were unable to sort themselves out hence, the result was brought in here without the APC agents signing it.
“However, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) agent signed his column. That was what happened in my area. The election was free and fair devoid of violence,” he stated.
Reacting, the agent for the APC, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani regretted the attitude of INEC, stating that INEC knew who was an authenticated agent of party as the party (APC) had written to INEC and given them lists of all the agents for the election.
“This shouldn’t be an issue as INEC was given lists of all the agents, they could not claim ignorant of not having the authenticated lists of our agents in this election. We can only accuse INEC of not doing it work well,” he said.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner however said that as far as the results were presented, the signing by agents of political parties does not make the result inadmissible.
“As far as the results had been submitted by the returning officer, the results have been admitted” and thanked the returning officers for doing their work.
DAILY POST gathered that similar struggle to sign results sheets occurred in other local government areas of the state.
