Nigeria Decides: Nigerians react as Saraki loses Senate seat to APC

Nigerians on social media have expressed divergent opinions as the desire of Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, to return to the Senate failed on Saturday.

In the result announced, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for Kwara Central Senatorial District, Saraki lost to Dr Yahaya Oloriegbe of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the Saturday’s Senatorial election.

Oloriegbe polled a total of 123, 808 votes to defeat the Senate President who scored 68, 994 votes in the four local governments of Kwara Central Senatorial District.

The result of the election was announced by the Senatorial District Returning Officer, Prof Olatunbosun Owoyomi from the University of Ilorin.

However, while some Nigerians lauded the Senate President for accepting defeat, some think the defeat showed the former governor has been totally demystified politically.

Here are some reactions collated by DAILY POST:

@Bmaifata83, “Someone that have formula to win Lagos but have no remedy for ‘o to ge’ syndrome.

@AhmDuRege, “Our very proud Sen President, May Allah continue to guide and protect him. He alone gives Power to whosoever He wishes, we accept His wishes and pray for the best.”

Congratulates to APC kwara and congratulates to Ibrahim Oloriegbe but we still need to work hard for the governorship election.@Kwara4PMB @Kwara_APC @MediaApc @thisiskwara_ng @AA4Kwara @kwaramustbefree

@Oojay, “He should go and practice medicine knowing fully well that two of his patients are anxiously waiting for him i.e Fayose and Dino who are always in severe pain.”

@OruAnam, “But he has accepted his loss, hasn’t he? No one is arrested, no fighting, no disruption, no killing and no use of police. Why can’t APC accept its loss across the country. Why should innocent people die for PMB to be President? Does your boss have conscience?”

@Bashcare4u, “Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, unarguably the best Senate President Nigeria has ever had. A leader who believes in the power of institutions. A leader who upheld democracy in the face of tyranny. A true leader, who doesn’t need an office to grow a nation.”

@AkanPatrick, “Instead of you to start packing Buhari’s bags, you are here talking about Saraki’s failure.”

@Rolex7Michael, “It was Zayn Malik who said; ‘Life is funny. Things change, people change, but you will always be you, so stay true to yourself and never sacrifice who you are for anyone.'”

“Personally, I thank Sen. Saraki for standing firm by his convictions! Very rare.”

@Zebbook, “I hope Saraki’s campaign team will collect their payments back from the idiot influencer that posted that video of him talking about cutting budget. Such a dunce.”
