The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kwara, Malam Garba Attahiru-Madami, on Wednesday disclosed that both the Presidential and Senatorial election result sheets meant for Lagos State was mistakenly taken to the commission’s office at Nasarawa State.
Attahiru-Madami said the mix-up was one of the reasons the general elections were postponed on Feb 16, NAN reports.
He said this while addressing party agents at the commencement of distribution of sensitive election materials from the Ilorin office of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to Local Government Areas in the state.
According to Attahiru-Madami: “The results sheets of Lagos were found here; I have sent it back. That of Lagos was also found in Nasarawa. I will be here (CBN) until they bring it. You can see the reason the election was postponed”.
He added: “We are starting with the local governments that are far away; we are moving our materials to Baruten, Kaiama, Patigi where there are riverine communities.”
