Hon. Bede Eke, the member representing Aboh Mbaise and Ngor-Okpala constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, has condemned the postponement of the 2019 general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Recall that INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, addressing reporters on Saturday morning at the press centre of the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, the nation’s Capital said that the polls would not go on as planned due to some challenges encountered by the commission.
He explained that the decision to postpone the polls followed a careful review of the implementation of logistics and operational plans put in place for the exercise.
But, Eke in a terse statement forwarded to DAILY POST on Sunday morning, sued for calmness among the Nigerian electorate over the unexpected scenario.
The Reps member, who is also a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Imo state, reiterated the determination of his party, to end the misgovernance foisted on the people, by the All Progressives Congress-led administration in the country come February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Eke’s statement reads, “My attention has been drawn to the postponement of the elections by INEC.
“I personally do not think it’s in our best interest as they ignored all traces of proactiveness expected of a commission saddled with the responsibility of conducting free and fair elections. All the same, i call for calm from my supporters and all constituents.
“Come 23rd of FAILBUHARI 2019, we shall jointly send Buhari packing while I return to the chambers to continue the building of our city.God bless for the support so far”.
