Nigerian voters have been given a pat on the back for the way they conducted themselves during Saturday’s presidential and Natiinal Assembly elections, as the European Union Observer Mission in Nigeria, EUOMN, described the conduct of voters during the elections as exemplary and committed.

The Chief Observer of the EUOMN, Santiago Fisas, disclosed this in an interview with journalists in Abuja, after monitoring the elections in some polling units, noting that Nigerians have proved their love for democracy by conducting themselves in a peaceful manner for both the accreditation and voting processes.

“The conduct of the Nigerian voters is an example. The voters are very committed and they started queuing this morning even in some instances when the electoral officers had not yet arrived.

“They also came again this afternoon. I think Nigerians are very committed people. They want democracy and they have shown it clearly by conducting themselves in a very peaceful way because they want to vote,” the Chief Observed stressed.

On some of the lapses noticed, Fisas, said: “We observe four polling stations this morning and two this afternoon.

“I can say that the polling officers came to the polling booths too late in places where we observed this morning. They did not come out at the right time. They delay in opening. While doing the accreditation, some of the Card Readers were not working well.”

According Fisas, who disclosed that his mission had sent 90 observers to different parts of the country to observe the elections,he said: “We came to Nigeria in November and we are going to stay for the gubernatorial elections and stay until the first week of May.
