A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Doyin Okupe, has reacted as the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, lost his bid for reelection into the Senate.
DAILY POST had reported that Saraki lost to Dr Yahaya Oloriegbe of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Saturday’s senatorial election in Kwara State.
Oloriegbe polled a total of 123,808 votes to defeat the Senate President who scored 68, 994 votes in the four local government areas of Kwara Central Senatorial District.
The development has since stirred reactions online.
But reacting, Doyin Okupe commended Saraki for his fight to uphold democracy, describing him as having a ‘spirit of greatness and a great leader”.
He tweeted, ”Buki Saraki is a good man,an astute politician and a successful business man . A man of impeccable and enviable pedigree.
”A great leader of people, a courageous, fearless but decent fighter. Above all a Democrat and defender of Democracy.
”He has won many battles and also has lost some, most recent is his Senate seat in the next assembly.
”But can this be the end of this celebrated and widely acclaimed leader and consummate politician with such great intellect, character and innate talents? Certainly NOT.
”Bukola Saraki’s book of life and times is not even near its closing chapters . The future may be unclear or even uncertain for now. Only God knows. What we know is that: whether winning, whether losing.”
