The Abia State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has said that it has directed its members and supporters across the seventeen local government areas of the state, to cast their votes for the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 general elections.
The chairman of SDP in Abia state, Hon.Chidi Nwosu, who made this known in an interview with journalists in Umuahia, the state capital, explained that the directive was in compliance with the resolution of the National Executive Council(NEC) of the party.
DAILY POST had reported that Social Democratic Party,(SDP), had adopted President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President, Yemi Osibanjo of the All Progressives Congress(APC) as candidates of the party (SDP) for the forthcoming presidential election.
SDP, in a statement, signed by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Yemi Akinbode, explained that the decision was due to a”lingering legal battle” between Donald Duke, the winner of the party’s presidential primaries and his major challenger, Professor Jerry Gana.
According to Nwosu, “The State Executive Committee of the Social Democratic Party met recently and resolved to back the position of NEC in adopting President Buhari as the sole presidential candidate of the party(SDP).
“Abia SDP has swiftly followed suit in backing and supporting the adoption of Buhari as candidate the party shall support in the upcoming presidential election. We are all working towards that.
“Everybody had gone into the field, to tell our teeming supporters in Abia that President Buhari should be voted for, in the February 23 presidential election”.
